If your garden is on a hill, there are limits to what can be done to level it. Budget stemming from practicality come into play here. If the only access is through the house down two flights of steps, then it will be incredibly expensive to level a garden because everything will need to be carried out by hand. This is time consuming work. However, if access is good, then a digger can come into play, which makes the job much cheaper and quicker. Depending on the condition of the garden after levelling, retaining work will sometimes have to be carried out. This can take the form of sleepers, block work, gabion boxes or occasionally concrete if absolutely necessary.
If you live on a large hill, you will need to accept that a completely flat football pitch or croquet lawn may not be possible, unless you have a very big budget!
